Discussion:

Clear, windy and hovering around zero at Deadman's Flats, snow started just past Banff.

-10 degC at the trailhead parking lot. Only one other vehicle was there, and based on the amount of snow on it, it had been there for a day or two.

We had read on the Parks Canada site that there had been tracksetting on Feb 25, but there was no evidence of this as a snowmobile had gone up (and down?) the trail. But apparently it was towing a trailer? In any case there were some faint but usable tracks with about a cm of snow in them.

We skied up to the bridge at 7km. There was very little wind, and snow was continuous but light, with tiny pellet-like flakes. It took us 2 hours to ski up. Returning only took an hour.

Temperature was only slightly higher when we returned. Our tracks at the bottom had filled in with 5-8mm of snow. The snowmobile track was a bit narrow, but where snowplowing was needed it still worked quite well, even on the final hill down to the parking lot.

Nobody else on the trail today.

Enjoyed!
