I'm feeling old. In the last half of the past century Boom Lake was a nice cross-country ski tour - it was even snowmobile track set about three-quarters of the way up.
Then, for a few more decades, it became a beginner back-country ski tour or alpine ski tour training destination. Now it is firmly a winter hiking destination. We encountered dozens of people with winter cleats on the trail: hikers, dog walkers, snowshoers, and even trail runners. We finally encountered some more skiers at the lake - they too were also Boomers. The trail was extremely hard packed and very bumpy from all of the walkers - not a very pleasant ski. The snow at the lake was much better as most of the walkers stop at the lakeshore - take their photo - and leave. I would certainly NOT recommend Boom Lake until right after a good snowfall.
Winter hiking is becoming a "thing" now - change is bad!!
I picture myself as that curmudgeon old neighbour, waiving my cane in the air and shouting "you young wipper-snappers stay off my ski trail!" (Ok, Boomer!)
