As is often the case, the Cascade Fire Road got better the farther I went. Started at around 1:00 PM at -12 C, and it was -7 C as I finished up a 16 km ski. The ski down to the meadow was fair at best, with hardly any tracks on a hard pack surface. The big hill was somewhat better, as the skier-made tracks were decent and the old snow was fast and manageable in both directions. The plateau is always very good and today was no exception. After the Cascade bridge, there was more loose snow from the past week, and the skier-made tracks were near perfect. Overall, it could use a good grooming but was still very pleasant for a trail so close to Canmore.
