...Mountain, that is.

Welcome to the inaugural trip report for "aqua toque's Excellent Season of Turns-Close-to-Town" wherein I vow to limit myself to ski turn objectives that have a trailhead within a 15 min drive of my current home base.

The campaign has got off to a late start as up until now within the aforementioned perimeter THERE HASN'T BEEN ENOUGH STINKING SNOW!

Today I found adequate amounts for touring on a favourite of mine. In fact, higher up in sheltered areas snow depth was better than expected but cold snaps have rendered it quite unsupportive.

I went as far as the top of a gladed zone at about 6200 ft. I have reach the summit via this route in the past but the terrain gets steeper and there's a section of tight trees. The bottomless snow was making further ascent heinous.

Linked turns were had (much like sausages) but the non-existent base really threw one around. Big boards with early rise tip helped.

The lower reaches of this approach are longish and of a consistently mellow angle with manageably spaced trees making for a fun cruise out. Snow quality was actually OK for this. The type of terrain where you could crack and enjoy a Heineken along the way.
