Fresh grooming is a priority this time of year, so Sue and I headed to PLPP to ski on the pristine tracks on Lodgepole. We arrived at Pocaterra at around 10:00 and minus 6, but the temp rose quickly as soon as we headed out. Lodgepole was perfect as expected, but what was unexpected were the fabulous conditions on Wheeler, Packers and upper Pocaterra. Some skiers told us that Whiskey Jack was not that great, especially at the S-curve. The first hint of catch and release occurred on the downhill run between Packers and Lynx, but it was not a big deal. After a great lunch at the Lynx picnic table, my favourite, conditions down the rest of Pocaterra were mixed - not surprising considering the powerful sun and warmer temps. But it was enjoyable every step of the way. Our skin skis performed extremely well and it was around plus 6 at the end.
It’s very hard to predict what the conditions will be like tomorrow with the warmer forecast, and PLPP usually doesn’t get groomed on Thursday nights. My advice - ski as much as you can in the next while because it might come to a screaming halt sooner rather than later!
