Despite reports of widespread horse damage on Thursday, I drove out to Sandy McNabb Friday morning to check things out, and I was so glad I did! I skied a loop of Macabee, Pine Ridge and Long Prairie, finding some of the best skiing conditions ever. Macabee showed no signs of equine intrusions, and elsewhere a few cm of fresh snow and fresh grooming covered things up nicely. I met the groomer on Macabee, the rest was done before I got there.

The only caveat I would mention is that there was much horse poop on Long Prairie, which had been groomed over, but is lurking there to be revealed by some warm sunshine.

For most of the day I only meet one other skier, but met him several times as he literally skied rings around me! Jeremy and I had a nice chat at the top of Pine Ridge; he suggested I ski down the west side, which was a great suggestion and I thoroughly enjoyed the descent (rare!).

The weather started off gloomy, but eventually the sun came out, and skies were blue by the time I left, with temps staying a few degrees below freezing - perfect!

Total distance: 13.00 Km
