Discussion:

Sam and I saw that Parks Canada rated GC as good yesterday, so we headed that way this morning. “Good” was an understatement indeed! Minus 14 at the GC trailhead at 11 AM, and minus 9 when we finished up around 2 PM in Banff. The conditions were simply wonderful. Even the initial descent and run to the park border were fun, and then we got to enjoy the grooming. There had been a recent snowfall of around 5 cm that covered fresh grooming, probably on Wednesday night, but the track was still superb. The snow in the track was medium-packed and relatively fast, while outside the track was soft and slow. The run down to the GC bridge was easier than ever. Sam’s fish scales and my skins both performed beautifully. The track got a bit slower after the Spray East-West junction, but it was still excellent all the way to the end. A huge thanks as always to Claire, our expert shuttle driver. Claire says that every year when she picks us up in Banff, Sam and I state that it was the best ski of the year, and better than ever! It was super quiet today, but should be busy tomorrow!
