I was excited by the prospect of fresh snow and Nordic Pulse showing grooming being done at West Bragg Creek. It was -12 when I got there, with the parking lot about half full (a lot of fat bikers). I skied the east side of Crystalline, Sundog and the west side of Crystalline. There were many skiers enjoying the snow but none, who I talked too, who were impressed with the grooming.

The grooming conditions at WBC continue to frustrate me and remain very subpar this winter. It looks like all that was done was some roller packing (and some bad roller packing, especially on Sundog) with no sign of any track setting. All tracks appeared to be done by skiers.

Total distance: 7.50 Km

Really rough conditions on Sundog after roller packing

That snow came in cold and fluffy. Roller packing the next day was soft, as should be expected, but way better than it was just prior. I would guess they may do another roller packing pass before track setting, if there is enough packed depth of new to allow it and volunteers available. Give it a try Tuesday before the cold snap. These things don’t happen instantly, regardless of the grooming system in place.

Hard to "get over it" when other areas have had similar snow levels and far superior grooming. Did you not see my picture and then look at the pictures from PLPP. Huge difference.

What is happening out at WBC is not even close to the quality that we have all seen over the years. I remember skiing there last winter when the area had no snow for over a month, yet the groomers were able to maintain fantastic skiing with minimal coverage and multiple chinooks. There were even a number of top skiers from Canmore using the trails because the grooming was so good. This winter the grooming has been very poor. Not sure what is going on but something has changed and the results have been average grooming for average skiers (or for iamthebestskier).
