They are probably waiting for more snowfall. Too thin and bumpy in many places until then.

Some trail surfaces are indeed very rough but a lot of them are smooth roads, they have three times the amount of snow as the Natural trails at the Nordic center, and they're grooming almost daily. Snow depth is not the issue. At least make a post explaining why there hasn't been any grooming, otherwise people assume the worst.

PLPP posted this today:

Dec 19th: No new snow has fallen since last Thursday, and more snow is needed before the snowcat can do more tracksetting, or even groom trails that have so far been only snowmobile groomed. Some of the few remaining trails that were not snowmobile rolled last week are being taken care of on Tuesday. After rain and some snow early in the month, about 5 to 7 cm's of new snow fell last week, just enough to re-groom the South end trails. Not all trails groomed Friday morning were fully trackset. As far as Wednesday's grooming, note that Tyrwhitt was groomed only and is still quite rough in places, Lookout was groomed only to the top of the higher switchback on the South side (and there is open water at the bottom of the South side), and only the top two thirds of Whisky Jack was trackset.

That is what I was wondering. What is the current situation with PLPP tracksetting / grooming ? Are there budgeting issues as in the past ? I thought these were resolved with the Kcountry Annual Passes. Ski trails out of Boulton could have been trackset but haven't been. There is enough snow. Parks Canada seems to be doing a better job of tracksetting than PLPP.

Having enjoyed fine skiing on Elk Pass, Blueberry, Hydroline, Patterson, Fox etc this afternoon, I would say that the groomers have been doing a good job despite the challenges of a low snowpack, and rain that left a layer of ice lurking just under the groomed surface. All us skiers are feeling at least a bit disappointed about the winter thus far, but I’m looking at it from a glass half full perspective. Although, it does bring back memories of years gone by, when we had a great groomed ski trail network in the highest snowfall zone of the Smith Dorrien.
