The political skier skiing on political trails

Discussion:

Well this is going to be my shortest ski report in my history.

I skied about 300 meters of what felt like a fantastic solid but somewhat thin base covered with pure luxurious silky snow that came from the heavens. There were 3 small trees down before the second hill. I turned around there and went back home due to what was happening to my body at the time.

End of ski report. Below is something about health and politics that only healthy political minds should read.

I arrived at the Redearth parking lot pumped up and feeling grrrrreat under sunny sky conditions. I felt great until I guzzled 1.5 litres of chitty of Calgary unfiltered water for the first time in decades. I normally filter the down stream Calgary water that has all sorts of sewage dumped into it, but did not today due to "economic filter cutbacks".

The chitty of Calgary water tasted like heavy chlorinated very light septic system heavy swamp water with goose chit in it. This "wine style" description is the best I can give. I was stunned how bad tasting the water was. I would instead call it a chemical concoction. After the first 1/4 of the bottle my vagus nerve going from the stomach to the brain sent out a signal to stop drinking the water. I over ruled my system, thinking I needed the rest of the water for hydration and intense skiing. Big mistake. The water I drank came back out like a fountain a little while later. Then burnt tasting Alpen cereal that I ate earlier with hemp seed came out not long afterward. Watch you step in the parking lot. This was my 4th case of food poisoning in 2 months. 1 case was from a pizza joint in Cache Creek and 2 were from Vector Cereal. I am not exactly sure what caused this 4th event but I think it was the water from chitty of Calgary hell that made me "do it."

I have been hit by food poisoning dozens of times working in the lousy oil patch over the decades. I know my body well and how it reacts from all my food poisoning experiences, but I have never gotten sick in the mountains before except after one big drinking event camping above treeline in the beginning of the 1980's. I am pretty wiped out from my "corporate sickness" experiences, particularly the last 4 which is affecting my gut health and skiing.

Today was a hell of a waste of $23 dollars worth of fuel. However, if you are careful in the parking lot, I think you might enjoy the silky snowy old road called Redearth Creek Trail.

Some lyrics below adapted from the great one man band Juzzie Smith tune Simple Road. Hear:

I love skiing down that old road
Its where my soul, my soul loves to go
Following my own two skis
Going to high country where i love to be
I ski on snow that supports
you and me

Total distance: 0.60 Km

Liked the way you reminded only mindful people to go beyond your short ski report… looking forward to reports beyond!

May I remind you that this page is for SKIING REPORTS. I am sorry to hear that you were not able to ski, however I am here to hear about people's ski trips, not complaining about politics. I would kindly urge you to keep this page to skiing and less politics that are not even related to skiing. It is great to hear political updates about issues like the Kananaskis Park pass or Funding cuts to Parcs Canada grooming, but complaining about Calgary water "poisoning" ??? Not the right place for this sort of post. I thank you for the forewarning about politics and health, but maybe a better solution would be to post about your health and politics on another website.

Thank you,
A skier who just wants to hear where the skiing is good,

I am recovering but it is going to take a while to get back to where my gut does not feel nauseated by something other than what is occurring in our political system. Getting back to full skiing tuck is going to take a healthy gut.

Oddly enough I was doing research on cork taint in wine. Some of the chemicals associated with cork taint can be found in municipal water systems along with all sorts of other fluids we consume.

One of the chemicals involved in cork taint gives an earthy/musty taste in municipal water.

As for the person complaining about what I had written which meets the conditions of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms within our constitution, I gave a fair warning about reading beyond the "boundary." There are other reports to read and mine is strictly optional. No one is pointing as ski pole without a basket at anyone's head and forcing them to read what I write.

Live and let others live and ski on in peace as it should be.

I think that it's pretty clear that people would prefer leaving political discussion elsewhere. This site is for ski reports, and it will fail if it's used for political commentary. There are lots of places where people would appreciate commentary, but this isn't one of them.
