Elk Pass & Tyrwhitt

Discussion:

Approaching PLPP we could see the Elk Valley cloud parked over Elk Pass and knew it would be a great day.
Encouraged by Ray Yong’s trip report we skied from Elk Pass parking, over Elk Pass, down Tyrwhitt to the north end of the meadows and returned the same way.
It was -6C in the parking lot at 10:30 am. Wax of VR40 (warm blue) and one smear of VR45 (violet), under the boot, performed well all day. The air temperature rose to -2C at 2:45 pm.
Elk Pass trail from the parking lot had a skiff of snow from Sunday over the January 8 grooming. The recent snowfall increased to about 2 cm at Elk Pass. Not recently groomed, Tyrwhitt was excellent as mentioned by Ray.
The grooming and trackset are hard and fast, but not icy, and provided the best ski conditions of this season. The recent snow provided excellent control descending hills.
