I hadn't skied WBC for a while, but after reading GH's Sunday report I thought- how about a dual sport day, as I had already planned on biking there. I found the skiing surprisingly good on my route taking in most of the core trails- firm, fast and fun, with enough of a softer skin on top for control on the downhills, and good tracks that were rarely icy. At 10:30 the trailhead air temp. was -4, but with the old granular snow and warm sun in mind- I waxed with Rode Viola Extra (0 to plus 3) which worked perfectly for grip other than needing a touch-up after 7 km due to the abrasive snow. My 3/4 metal edged 50mm skis made for easy confident descending, but I would have been fine on the skinny classic boards. As I switched to biking mode (excellent conditions by the way) around noon it had warmed up considerably but the snow remained dry on my ride, so I think that the skiing should be decent for a while yet. Kudos to the tireless grooming crew who have been keeping skiing alive at West Bragg- I know where some of my Danielle Bucks are going!
Total distance: 14.00 Km
Fine conditions on the east facing hill on Mountainview. Snow cover on the west side hill is thin, but skiable thanks a lot of snow farming.
