Hi Ulli,
Yes, the snow crust is very supportive. Note that I was also using classic ski poles with tiny baskets. The baskets did not punch through the thick crust.
But yes, the snowplow descent back down that last hill to Lake Minnewanka was a workout for my legs without metal edged skis!
I have updated the Link at the bottom of my report to provide Skier Bob’s summary of earlier trips to Cuthead. I did not know that it was still available!

Chuck - snow must have been reasonable good for the descents since you took your skinny skis vs. metal edged. Nice spot at the cabin to enjoy your well deserved lunch and beer.

Yes Jean-Francois, just continue straight up the Cascade Valley to that 23.6 km sign at the Flints Park turn-off and follow my tracks!

Bonjour Chuck,
Merci for the report! It seems you use your skinny skis, good to know. I always been tempted to ski to the cabin but I don't know exactly where it is....From the end of grooming you just follow straight in the valley for another 9 / 10k or you need to take some turns to access it?
Merci d'avance
Jean-Francois

Consider this to be a continuation of my earlier trip to the Elk Trap:

Thanks to new tracksetting on March 25 to the Cascade Bridge and all those who have maintained the trail beyond the Stoney Creek Bridge this winter, I was able to once again get to Cuthead Cabin this year.

Even the trail to Stoney Creek Cabin was in good shape

Skier tracks ended at Stoney Creek

I did remove my skis to hop across this little obstacle

Lots of animal tracks, including from this Moose

This bird managed to get something In and something Out!

First view of the Flints Park area

Signage at 23.6 km

When you are at this bridge across Cuthead Creek, you are getting close!

Cuthead Cabin

Returning on my tracks, and many Lynx!

Anybody remember that Elk skeleton near the Elk Trap from one of my earlier trips (this is all that is left)

Back on the Cascade bridge... hints of the future!
