Yes, I figured that would be the case. It was weird to see that huge parking lot totally empty.

The road was closed George, as they were still removing snow from the road after successful bombing. Apparently there was a 5 m deep pile of snow to be dealt with. Crews expect another day of closure to get it all cleared.

Discussion:

I was hoping for warmer weather but -15 was it pretty much the whole day. The route has not been groomed for a few days but it is holding up reasonably as far as the Goat Creek bridge. Nearly no one has been past there. I encountered only one skier on that last 7 km stretch so the track was pretty slow. There was absolutely no one parked up at Goat Creek. I assume that the road was closed due to avalanche danger / control. Travel on the Banff to the Goat Creek bridge was fairly slow (about 10% off my usual pace) due to the cold temperatures. The slowness made for a stress free descent down to the Goat Creek Bridge.

Total distance: 38.00 Km
