Bonus (as skier specific terminology). Not to be confused with the financial derivative known as the Credit Default Swap, the Canadian Depository for Securities, or those shiny round music and data storage mediums.

A very astute point, Mr toque.

Still, I've inaugurated the now trademarked CDS acronym into the SkierRoger.ca hall of fame:

Given the locale and the described degree of carnage one would be inclined to suspect a rogue pack of badgers.

In which case a CDS™️ won't do much good unless you can stab accurately multiple times very quickly!

Oh wow! Anything is possible. But glad it was well fed and likely finished with that meal.

I was thinking about a CDS (Cougar Defense System) on my WBC tour today. About half way up the Boundary Ridge Trail, I came across a spot where a cougar had disassembled and eaten a deer at some point during the overnight snow storm. All that remained were a couple of legs, some intestines and several chunks of fur.
I assumed that the successful hunter had a full tummy and was having a nap somewhere.

WBC: Marching on….(and testing the new CDS)

Discussion:

March 1 never felt so good (only 3 official weeks of winter left!). Finally some significant snow events have arrived before spring (out like a lion?). Made for wonderful wintery travel off the grooming today around telephone loop (CCW). No hazards encountered by the ski bases, although the possibility exists as it’s still a bit thin on the east side. Pole bang for the first couple km or more. Effortless, smooth and silent trail breaking. Eventually encountered a couple ski tracks coming in from snowshoe hare going in the same direction. I think they were enjoying the trail breaking also (skiing side by side often), or maybe just better grip? Back at moose loop to see fresh grooming and track set (but so much more noisy in spots after hours on telephone, wild). Lightly snowing all day with temps staying around -12 to -10. An excellent day out in great conditions.

Wonderful cold snow.

The CDS (Cougar Defence System) ™️

Part 1: The last resort, sharp and pointy.
Part 2: Hyper vigilance (more important than Part 1), paying attention at all times, with all senses, especially when there’s lots of light fluffy stuff around deadening all sound. It’s amazing what you will see if you look.
Part 3: Googly eyes on the back of the toque, like a Northern Pygmy Owl.

Farming snow from the parking lot snow banks for the hill up towards hostel and telephone loops (a smart idea considering the size of the snow banks), with Alf up front tagging along on a training run.
