Looks a bit intense in the moment for snowfall. But Definitely more work fixing trails than making a simple couch.

Thanks, Bruce.
A team of BCT volunteers was out all day harvesting and moving snow to create the best possible snow base for the Alberta Youth Championships.

And 10cm of new snow fell during the afternoon. Volunteer groomers are out right now, packing the new snow.

Apologies if my report from Tuesday was mis-interpreted as being critical of the grooming crew. It was only meant as an honest observation of trail conditions, which is the purpose of this site.

Good to know Bruce. Thanks.

Given this little blip of snow (10 cm maybe at Bragg) I’ll be heading there tomorrow after a bit of work. No need to take the day off and drive further to land at an unplowed parking lot in deeper Kananaskis. Should be great with some cool temps and acres of fresh trail breaking to be had. (-:

Respect to MaSid and Skier Roger. Your comments were in the spirit of notifying BCT of issues and letting skiers know that there were some issues. BCT also has a report a trail issue. I'm sure they would appreciate hearing there as well. https://braggcreektrails.org/trail-issue-report/ Happy trials.

And they will be busy prepping for the race, as it’s puking there right now. Same issue with the Louise loppet. Too much snow to groom! And I just saw a tree starting to bud in calgary. Tough waxing maybe.

Hey MaSid.

It’s perfectly fine to point such imperfections out; just one of the many uses of this website. Constructive, positively stated information can help improve our ski areas and make this forum better.

Thanks Bruce. Well said.

I assume it’s ok to point these things out (no judgement), in case it’s not noticed. Never sure.

In the mean time, here’s the race schedule of events:

Discussion:

There's been some 'chatter' on this site and in social media about the 'interesting' grooming on Iron Springs/Elbow earlier this week. There was an equipment issue on the Rabbit, that resulted in the poorly groomed and trackset trails. The hard working volunteers have fixed the Rabbit, and reset those trails. It's not like this has never happened before.

I would implore those who are critical of the efforts of BCT to remember that these are volunteers who are trying their best to rejuvenate the volunteer tracksetting group with a total reset of volunteers and repair of all the equipment in November.

We should be thankful to those volunteers who have contributed in the past, and to the new volunteers who are committed to providing the best user experience possible with their resources.

This weekend, I hope skiers also set their expectations accordingly, as the Alberta Youth Championships will be held in West Bragg Creek. The volunteers first priority will be to the race, which will be mostly around the core ski trails. However, the outer trails will still be available to ski for non competitors. I expect, as in the past, but depending on this forecast storm, that BCT will try to keep the other ski trails groomed and trackset. Or just come out and cheer on these young, budding Olympic athletes. It is a really fun event.

May good Karma follow you and your skis

Respectfully
Bruce Barker
Founder and former Head Groomer, BCT
