Discussion:

Below is a grooming update from Berke McClintock of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Trail Team:

Fairview Loop (#2): Double trackset, Dec. 30. Good condition!

Shoreline (#4): Double trackset, Dec. 30. Good condition!

Lake Trail (#4): Double trackset with a separate walking path, Dec. 29. Poor condition. On the ski trail there are three separate 100 meter sections of ankle deep slush. Some of it has frozen and you ski along ice, some of it is still slushy water and not fun to deal with. What isn't ice or slush is walked on within minutes of it being set. The struggle is real.

Upper Telemark and Peyto Trails (#5&#7): Double trackset, Dec. 30. Good condition!

Notes:
· The lake is almost unmanageable, from the slush, to the exposed ice, to the walkers it's impossible to set a decent track. Once the holiday rush calms down we will try are best. On the bright side the walking section is good!

· The amount of local walkers, snowshoers and XC skiers going right up to and past the avalanche path of Mt. Fairview that comes onto lake Louise is quite concerning. Signs are everywhere but aren't working, we are asking all users to help with "teachable moments" if you get the chance to spread the word.

· Anytime we get a new snow fall the weight of that snow forces the ice down enough for water to pool on top of it, regardless of the ice thickness (it's safe!). It will not freeze until it is exposed to cold air, so this will always be an ongoing issue and something to keep in mind anytime you cross a lake.
