Discussion:

After reading Normand and Gord F's recent trip reports, I was motivated to take on the Whiskey Jack trail at PLPP. I left the Boulton Creek Trading Post parking lot at 11:00 am. I decided to take my old tele skis since as I wasn't completely sure what to expect. The temperature was mild. It was a red wax day.

On the drive up, I stopped by the Pocaterra hut and chatted with a groomer who was preparing to install a number of signs throughout the ski area. He explained they will likely begin packing the snow when the next dump arrives.

I broke first trail up Whiskey Jack. The snow was somewhat wet, making my upward trek challenging. I decided to put on the skins which made things more efficient. The snow pack was Ok in the morning (20 cm in places) but a few dirty spots were noticed, surprisingly towards the top.

As I approached top near the Tyrwhitt / Pocaterra intersection I met some oncoming tracks that simply stopped… The skier obviously changed their mind and turned around.

I turned right and went down Tyrwhitt for about 2.5 Km then turned back and retraced my tracks. The trip back down was enjoyable but the sunny day did a number on the snow, causing a fair amount of dirt and wet spots to appear. Skiers should take care in those places.

This was a 13 Km day.
