Nordic Crust at Burstall / Robertson

Discussion:

There was enough of a freeze last night that there was a nice supportive crust with a few cms of fresh snow on top. The first 2.8km up the trail aren't great (walkers!), but the meadows are good (despite lower snowpack than some epic years). I skied up towards the Robertson Glacier as smallish avalanches rumbled down from the aptly named Whistling Rock Peak. Lots of slide debris from the last storm cycle, but the valley bottom felt safe today.

Great once you get into the open areas.

Looking towards Burstall Pass. Some shrubs, but easy to avoid.

Headed towards the Robertson Glacier - a bit of open water in places.

Looking north to Mount Birdwood, Pig's Tail, and Commonwealth Peak.

Very cool!

Thanks for stopping to take some pics and share them with us. I especially love the stunning contrast of your tracks beside the fatties in the last one.

😊

Hey Alaric,
What a useful report… skiing is far from over!
I have to agree with AT, “I especially love the stunning contrast of your tracks beside the fatties“.
Hope to join you at the upcoming Totem Cup.
