Discussion:

I was excited to get out & try my new, but slightly used fish scale skis, purchased yesterday from Outlaw Sports in Calgary: Fisher, 189cm, 62-52-60mm profile, full metal edged. I made sure to apply Swix Easy Glide to reduce icing since recent trip reports warned of sticky conditions.

Happy to report I experienced NO clumping of snow today. Nice glide with no back slippage. I talked to a number of skiers along the way, non of whom reported any icing problems either. Not quite sure and I’m certainly not complaining, but perhaps the increased moisture content in today's dense snow allowed us to avoid these clumping problems.

I skied Hostel Loop then West Crystal to Mountain View & Mountain Road.

It was a great pleasure to meet Scott and Heather March on West Crystal with their two senior dogs. They were enjoying a lovely day & thinking about Boom Lake as an upcoming destination.

Cari was also having a good time on Mountain View (so picturesque up there). She and I agreed that it's difficult to turn in that heavy snow. Just point the tips down and let ‘em go!

Nice to have the right gear for those conditions! I also found the skiing to be pretty good, for a +11C day. No sticking or clumping and pretty decent glide with fish scale skis. My tour included Sundog, Boundary Horse trail, a descent via a cut-block to Iron Springs, Sundog, West Crystal and Middle Crystal Line.
