Too good to resist

Discussion:

I am not normally a weekend skier, but I braved the traffic today because the Kananaskis trails were calling my name. The roads were fine, but top speed on highway #40 was 70 KmH and 50 KmH going up hills.

The reward was some thoroughly enjoyable skiing on the Kananaskis Village and Bill Milne trails. The Village trails were trackset four days ago but the grooming is holding up well and there are no hazards.

Descending from the Kovach Lookout on the S-turns to the village was as much fun as I've ever had. The tracks were fast and the turns have lots of snow.

The downhill on Terrace to the Ribbon Creek parking lot couldn't have been better. All the rocks from the last 100 metres have been covered and the three roller coaster hills can be taken at full speed.

Despite almost-full parking lots the trails didn't seem that busy, but I enjoyed talking to a lot of former SkierBob readers who still recognize my toque.

The temperature in mid-afternoon was -8. A blue wax day.

Skiers having fun

These skiers on Terrace trail were out for the first time ever on xc skis.

The S-turns on Kovach had lots of snow.

The 4-lane practice grid at the village has been well-used. I'm standing on Terrace trail south which makes it 6 lanes.

Bill Milne trail was nice and sunny.

You can still see Coal Mine across the way.
